Sila Introduces New Battery Engineering Services to Support Product Innovators’ Transition to Next Generation Anode Materials
Sila’s market momentum underscores demand for better batteries as Titan SiliconTM, now powering millions of consumer devices, delivers 100% graphite anode replacement, and enables smaller form factors, shorter charge times, and longer battery life.
ALAMEDA, CA – November 19, 2024 – Sila, a next-generation battery materials company, today rolls out new Battery Engineering Services to help consumer electronics (CE) and micromobility design teams, as well as their cell manufacturing partners, develop a better battery. In a market where battery size, life, and charge times are increasingly important to consumers, Sila’s industry-leading nano-composite silicon (NCS) anode, Titan Silicon, can improve product performance and brand differentiation. Coupled with the company's new Battery Engineering Services, Sila's Titan Silicon can enable CE product innovators to achieve dramatic boosts at the cell level to transform a product’s overall customer experience, quickly.
With consumers continuing to value battery performance and device OEMs releasing increasingly power-hungry application updates and hardware, including on-device AI and VR/AR, integrating innovative battery solutions has never been more important. “At Sila, our anode technology has already unlocked unprecedented battery performance for millions of consumer devices, and empowered a number of products to deliver unmatched performance and differentiated experiences,” said Gene Berdichevsky, Sila Co-founder and CEO. “We also found that close collaboration between Sila, the device manufacturer, and their cell partner can enable even greater performance boosts to drive energy density, power, and cycle life increases across the cell. It’s how we help take device performance from better to transformative.”
Sila’s Battery Engineering Services team is now formalized to help OEMs develop a battery that powers their product vision, from concept to launch. This team will work with an OEM to understand product requirements and either collaborate with their chosen cell maker or help identify and evaluate cell partners to ensure the use of state-of-the-art form factors and chemistry baselines for high-performance batteries. Sila’s Battery Engineering Services team will also partner closely with the cell maker on cell chemistry and anode design to co-develop an implementation that delivers on OEM priorities such as energy density, swell, power, cycle life, and fast charge. Additionally, for OEMs lacking in-house battery testing capabilities, Sila provides cell testing services to validate battery performance and other requirements. Sila will also support the OEM and cell maker throughout the cell builds to streamline development for faster speed to market. For more details, visit Sila’s Battery Engineering Services page.
Sila’s Battery Engineering Services in Action
Sila’s Titan Silicon now powers millions of consumer devices for a number of CE partners, including a newly launched wearable featuring a 100% graphite anode replacement. This is the latest lithium-ion cell Sila engineered for this customer to enable a smaller, longer-lasting battery. Through collaboration with this OEM, Sila recognized that Battery Engineering Services would be a valuable addition to its non-auto product offerings. With close collaboration between the device OEM and its cell manufacturer, Sila’s Battery Engineering team helped deliver compounding benefits to unlock better battery performance, and a more comfortable, sleek, and powerful device for consumers. Powered by Titan Silicon, the OEM delivered a device with nearly 20% higher energy density, enabling increases in run time, more advanced sensors, a lighter form factor, and extended battery life vs. earlier graphite-powered generations.
Sila and CES
Sila will be meeting with consumer product innovators, auto manufacturers, and cell makers at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Look for Sila at the Renaissance Hotel from January 7th - 10th.
