Accounting Manager

About Us

We are Sila, a next-generation battery materials company. Our mission is to power the world’s transition to clean energy. To create this future, our team is building a better lithium-ion battery from the inside out today. We engineer and manufacture ground-breaking battery materials that significantly increase the energy density of batteries, while reducing their size and weight. The result? Smaller more powerful batteries that can unlock innovation in consumer devices and accelerate the mass adoption of electric cars to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels. We're tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time every day, and together we're redefining what's possible. Are you ready to be a part of a team committed to changing the world?

Who You Are

Are you ready to make a significant impact in a rapidly growing manufacturing organization? Are you excited to collaborate with cross-functional teams—ranging from Operations to FP&A—to enhance and streamline financial processes? If your answer is yes, then this might be the role for you.

As the Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all facets of the accounting function to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with GAAP. In addition to owning the month-end close and financial statement preparation, you will play a key role in designing and maintaining efficient processes for COGS, inventory, and fixed asset accounting. Working closely with Operations, you will help drive initiatives that optimize product costs and improve overall financial performance. You will lead and develop an accounting team, ensuring strong internal controls, proper data capture, and insightful reporting to support strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Oversee month-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Maintain the accuracy of inventory, COGS, and fixed asset accounting systems, ensuring proper classification and documentation.
  • Collaborate with the FP&A and Operations teams to analyze cost drivers, track key manufacturing cost metrics, and recommend strategies for cost efficiency.
  • Manage, review, and maintain item costing within the ERP system, including performing periodic cost updates and ensuring proper product setup.
  • Lead investigations into and provide analysis on manufacturing variances, such as purchase price, usage, and labor variances.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets, including oversight of inventory cycle counts, fixed asset audits, and slow-moving inventory reviews.
  • Ensure proper capture and reporting of capital expenditures, accumulated depreciation, and asset disposals.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to direct reports, setting clear performance goals, offering constructive feedback, and driving professional development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, improve financial data accuracy, and support initiatives that enhance profitability and reduce waste.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Accounting.
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment (cost accounting experience a plus).
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, standard costing concepts, and inventory controls.
  • Experience with large-scale ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting or finance professionals.
  • Big 4 public accounting experience preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Move long distances (such as from building to building) and be stationary for extended periods of time
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc in a fixed location

The starting base pay for this role is between $135,000 and $171,000 at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills.
