Process Integration Engineer

About Us

We are Sila, a next-generation battery materials company. Our mission is to power the world’s transition to clean energy. To create this future, our team is building a better lithium-ion battery from the inside out today. We engineer and manufacture ground-breaking battery materials that significantly increase the energy density of batteries, while reducing their size and weight. The result? Smaller more powerful batteries that can unlock innovation in consumer devices and accelerate the mass adoption of electric cars to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels. We're tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time every day, and together we're redefining what's possible. Are you ready to be a part of a team committed to changing the world?

Who You Are

As a Process Integration Engineer, you will develop processes to optimize the quality and manufacturing efficiency of Sila’s anode product.  You are pivotal in crafting a holistic control plan for end-to-end high volume manufacturing (HVM), serving as the crucial bridge to ensure that disparate parts come together seamlessly to form a unified and functional whole.  Through tools such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) as well as Process Development & Characterization (PDC), you will predict potential pitfalls, establish proactive measures, and effectively implement controls to mitigate risks.  You will work closely with Materials Development, Process Technology, Process Safety, Analytical Development, Manufacturing, and Quality to design and release new control plans that will enable Sila to scale effectively.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop holistic manufacturing control plans to enable Sila to effectively scale its technology.  This includes the design, selection and implementation of value-add control methods for the total production process.
  • Cross-functionally collaborate with Materials Development, Process Technology, Process Safety, Analytical Development, Manufacturing, and Quality, to optimize the quality and manufacturing efficiency of Sila’s products.
  • Design, develop, and implement Sila-wide procedures, standards, and work instructions to continuously improve the efficiency of Sila’s approach to product and process development and validation.
  • May mentor multiple junior engineers and direct the activities of others

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Proficient in design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis.
  • Proficient in six sigma (DMAIC) concepts, statistical process control (SPC), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and structured problem solving methodologies (8D).
  • Hands on experience with ramping technology from lab-scale to high volume manufacturing.
  • Experience initiating work and engaging Environmental Health and Safety teams to evaluate and review materials, procedures, and laboratory environments to ensure safe operations at all times.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to convey complex information effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; able to drive strategic partnerships and work cohesively with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals.
  • Ability to think deeply and critically in order to solve problems and develop strategies within a cross-functional team.
  • Can effectively manage multiple responsibilities, is self-motivated and can work autonomously with minimal guidance; comfortable with ambiguity and eager to create structure; able to lead projects with diverse scope.
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry, or equivalent with minimum of 12+ years (Bachelor’s degree), 10+ years (Master’s degree), or 7+ years (PhD) of industry experience in process development, product development, and/or quality control.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Remain in a stationary position to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a laptop, copier/printer machine, etc.
  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection.
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes.
