Sr. Staff Database Engineer

Who You Are

As a database engineer, you take ownership of Sila data storage systems, ensuring the consistency, durability, availability, and performance of our on-premise and cloud-hosted databases. 

You will be working with incoming data streams from sensors and time-series equipment, as well as small and large batch processes, to serve data to internal stakeholders such as application developers, technology development teams, and battery teams.

You will be responsible for building scalable data integration technologies, working closely with software engineers, data scientists, and database management team to create a next-generation data infrastructure that supports user queries, dashboards, applications, and data analysis.

Responsibilities and Duties  

  • Deliver data as a service, ensuring consistency, durability, availability, and performance of datastores across a wide variety of applications and services
  • Develop and implement data processing and analytics pipelines
  • Develop and maintain data analysis tools for scripting and automation, parameter extraction, exploration, and data visualization
  • Provide data pipeline support to R&D, manufacturing, engineering, quality, and software development teams
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to identify and implement data processing frameworks and automation opportunities to increase efficiency
  • Work closely with source data owners, software engineers, data scientists, and database administrators to build a next-generation data infrastructure
  • Serve data to internal stakeholders such as application developers, technology development teams, and battery teams

Knowledge and Skill Requirements 

  • 5+ years experience administering on-premise and cloud-hosted SQL Server databases
  • 3+ years experience working with Snowflake
  • Experience writing, troubleshooting, and optimizing SQL queries and stored procedures
  • Experience working with event-driven data pipelines
  • Experience with Python and SQL
  • Knowledge of data lake architecture and data lake management
  • Knowledge of data governance and data management practices
  • Bonus experience working with PostgreSQL or MySQL
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Move items up to 50 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts
  • Move long distances (such as from building to building) and be stationary for extended periods of time
  • Reach low shelves or items on the floor
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc in a fixed location

 

The starting base pay for this role is between $170,000 and $215,000 at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila’s competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses.  The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
